Test Lab Services
Our in-house Test Lab offers an integrated and value-added service to our customers. With an experienced test team and the very latest in equipment, our customers can avail of our extensive contract testing services.
Our Test Lab services cover all aspects of testing including corrosion testing, radial & crush force testing and physical, mechanical and analytical testing.
Our Test Lab services include:
Corrosion Testing
(ASTM F2129 / DIN ISO EN 10993-15)
Corrosion testing is performed with qualified test equipment using Hank’s balanced solution, PBS (Phosphate Buffered Saline) or other electrolytes to determine corrosion resistance of stents, filters, frames and other devices, especially made from Nitinol. Our equipment is suitable for pitting, crevice and galvanic corrosion testing.
Tensile and Micro-Tensile Testing
(ASTM E8, ASTM F2516, EN10002)
Apart from standard tests, our new micro-tensile testing of fully processed Nitinol is a helpful tool for material and component characterizations and FEA calculations. All tests can also be performed at body temperature.
Radial-Force and Crush-Force Testing
(EN14299, EN12006, ISO25539)
These test methods provide information about stent radial force within a diameter range of 1 mm to 11 mm or reset forces of self-expanding devices within a diameter range of up to 50 mm.
Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
(ASTM F2004)
The qualified DSC method is a destructive thermo-analytical technique for determining the transformation temperatures of Nitinol samples. The measurement is performed within temperatures of -180 °C (-292 °F) and 550 °C (1022 °F).
Af-Temperature Testing
A qualified, non-destructive test method to determine the functional Austenite finish (Af) temperature of wire (ASTM F2082), tubing and stents applying deformation in cooled condition and recording recovery behavior upon temperature increase.
SEM Investigation /Energy Dispersive X-Ray Analysis (EDX)
Our equipment allows for the analysis of surface inhomogeneities and surface contaminations and is therefore used in the evaluation of product quality.
Hydrogen Determination
(ASTM E1447)
Determination of Hydrogen contents of Nitinol components and raw material is an important means to exclude Hydrogen embrittlement. The detection limit of this destructive test is about 0.3 ppm Hydrogen for a sample weight of 150 mg.
Material Cross Sectioning
ADMEDES Schuessler has more than 12 years experience in metallographic examination of Nitinol components. Determination of heat affected zones, grain size and material failures such as stringers is a standard procedure at ADMEDES Schuessler.
Rapid Fatigue Life Cycle Testing for Nitinol Tubing
An accelerated test method developed by ADMEDES Schuessler, which allows pre-estimation of material quality using micro-dogbone and diamond-shaped samples.
Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES)
(Performed externally)
AES is a surface micro-analytical technique to determine the surface composition of components, especially structure and chemistry of the protective oxide film of Nitinol components. AES together with corrosion testing allows assessing the protectiveness of the applied surface finish of devices.
